Memel Medal - How do I/Should I Clean It ...

    Fellow Members,

I don't want the tread to become a repro/authentic debate - I'm quite happy with this medal and so are quite a few reputable dealers.

However, in the past someone has tried to bend the medal and the stain from their thumb (reverse) and index finger (obverse) have left a darker stain. Try bending a coin and you will see what I mean.

Is there anyway I could remove this darker colour or, taking another view, darken the whole of the medal to give an overall similar appearance.

    Many Thanks Team...

      Hello Hagwalther,

Try using some WD-40 oil. Just spray it on, let it soak in a bit, and then scrub it lightly with a toothbrush. After that, rinse it with water and then use a blow dryer to remove all the moisture. Make sure you cover up the ribbon so as to not get oil on it. Or better yet, spread the suspension ring open a bit using needle nose pliers. The ring and ribbon can then be taken off the eyelet and you don't have to worry about getting the ribbon wet or oily.
      Best regards! Tom
