Beautiful set of Whm long service awards with bags Chris (and Gary) but, if I remember correctly there were 2 types of bags for these. One for the ribbon & ribbon eagle only was marked "Hoheitsabzeichen" (gold or silver) and another type of bag marked "Dienstauszeichnung mit hoheitsabzeichen und band" for the complete sets as Gary shows which also exist with other text (ike your "I Kl." & II Kl. envelopes intended for the gold & silver crosses)and your 2 bags marked "Hoheitabzeichen gold" are for the eagles/ribbons only

All mine are worn/mounted except a 1st Klass with oakleaves that I feel is "bag worthy" but I never found one and suspect the oakleaves came in a separate packet/bag

            Great find

Very interesting thankyou Jean-Claude so the two outer packets are for the ribbon and small eagle only. These all came as I showed. The 4 and 12 year are completed with the bags but the other two not am I correct here ?

Wait for more enlightened opinions but as far as I am concerned your 2 envelopes marked only "1 KL" & "2 KL" would be for the 1st class gold cross & 2nd class silver cross probably* with ribbons & matching eagles while the ones marked "Hoheitsabzeichen" would be stand alone packages for ribbons & eagles (no need for an inner wrapper). Some of Brian's envelopes are meant to include the complete kit both the Dienstauzeichen (cross/medal) & the hoheitsabzeichen (eagle) and have an unmarked wrapper to keep items separate within the same bag so the medal/cross & eagle dont come in contact & get scratched

*I say probably because while the medals are identical for Heer, KM & Luftwaffe the Luftwaffe uses a different eagle and I havent seen a package/envelope yet that reflects the distinction (ie: 1st Klass Luftwaffe vs 1st Klass Heer/KM) yet I doubt manufacturers would issue 1 of each with all medals. Tailor & retail shops probably had access to separate boxes of eagles (Heer/KM & Luft) that they used as applicable as was probably the case for the 40 year bar as well
