gold and silver

guys this may sound a bit thick but are the mm the same for gold and silver.and was it just a matter of gold paint.as in take a silver wb and paint it gold

In this case, as with silver/bronze PABs or IABs or Pilot/P-O badges, they all came from the same die (and should share the same die characteristics) but were finished differently. It wasn't a case of "paint" it silver and then "paint" it gold. Each would have been finished (with or without an "undercoat", depending upon basemetal, manufacturere and period of manufacturer) straight from bare metal. Imo, the finish on your silver is fine but to me, from the images in the other thread, the gold may have been upgraded/refinished (probably recently, highly unlikely "at the factory").
