I have just become a member of your informative forum and have one quick question to start. Proper storage and maintainance of helmets. I have a M38 paratrooper helmet single decal that was shown on your forum by pvon. Normandy bringback my father picked up. He landed D-Day +2 Thanks for any advice I can get.

Hi Charles, it is best to leave helmets alone. Collectors like to see them left untouched for the most part.
If you must, the liner can be lightly cleaned with a moist sponge. I would not do anything else to the liner......and nothing to the shell.....certainly no oils. Some have used various products (Lexol, etc) on chinstraps to keep them from drying.
Unless there are problems, I would leave it alone. Many a nice helmet has been damaged by using the wrong product.Willi

Judging from the look of your helmet, Charles, I would do nothing to it all. Your helmet's shell, liner and straps are all in good condition and need nothing. I would store your helmet in a dry, room temperature room, away from direct sunlight. When you go home
