I have never even touched an original FJ lid, but I would say that helmet appears brand new. There is no sign of corrosion on the chicken wire, or anywhere on the shell. Did the para ever wear it outdoors? If its condition was that pristine, why would someone paint over the original color(s)?
Tell your friend not to let his money burn a hole in his pocket. After some of the more expert forum members get off work & have their dinner, you will probably get more answers than you were prepared for.
I'm sorry to say it's a text book FAKE. Maybe an improved Czech repro....... Tell your friend try to get his money back ASAP.
BTW, I guess the shell should be an " ET 71 " one. Though it's a fake, note how well the rolling edge thay made..... This hoppy is getting more & more expensive & tough nowadays.....
No need for that, he has not bought it yet, told him to post it here before, I am always having a look at the nice helmets in the FJ Forum, they are way out of my league but I figured if you need to know if it is original this is the place to post.
Thanks to all of you .
I would have to see some more of this helmet to know exactly what we have here. Honestly, I do not think it is a Czech fake. What size is the shell and liner?
Can't say I have a good feeling about the wire, but am not prepared to say it is fake. Galvanized wire can still look clean, perhaps not as clean as this one looks though. Would have to see some details of the wire under the rim and in the liner band. A closeup of the wire on top too.
The liner band may be zinc, something the Czechs repros do not use.
Can't be more absolute till I see some more of it.
I dont have more pics on hand right now but asked for them.
This helmet hasn't been repainted. Steven and I mixed up two
things. The repainted shell will be posted later.
All the size info available right now is 57 - 68.
Hope this may help outfor the moment.

That very helmet was sold within the last few months on ebay as a reproduction helmet. I remember not liking the wire, even for a repro, and was impressed at the artificial aging of the liner which IMO, is not needed for a reenactor
Whomever is doing the selling either bought the helmet and is trying to make a quick buck (read=crook) or has stollen the seller's images and is trying to make a quick buck (read=scounderel & crook)...either way, tell your buddy to run!
