Chinstraps cut pratice ?

Hi,

Just a question about the chinstraps cut pratice ? Is it only made by US troops to pickup a M38 as a souvenir or also by german medic to take off helmet on WIA or KIA paratrooper ?????

My own guess is that it occurred in both cases, with single cuts of the chinstrap being made by GIs in order to quickly retrieve a helmet as a souvenir and cuts of each of the chinstraps being made by medical personnel in order to carefully remove the helmet and not disturb the head or neck as much as possible. There are many examples of helmets showing single cuts and cuts of each of the four chinstraps.

I have to agree with the previous opinion. Both were made in my opinion. But if you see an helmet with each straps cut it's more probably a medical touch in order to do not injured more the soldier.
