    Of course those pads are tan. You see this mixture of pads often on early war helmets. Nothing more than using leftover parts, a common feature of German manufacturing we often encounter in this hobby.

        They don't look quite like the earlier yellow pads at the side, they look more like discoloured / faded black pads around the edges.
