Really a clasp as compared to a badge. Here are a couple of photos of it being worn. Since this topic comes up occasionally I thought I would post it as a future reference.

I had several of these in the 80s in Germany, as I used to collect NATO and Warsaw Pact jump wings.

The badge measures approx. 5.9 x 1.6 centimeters. Mine shows heavy tarnishing and wear. Unfortunately, the pin/hinge/catch assembly is bent and damaged, with the catch missing the central locking mechanism. The reverse bears the maker's mark for Assmann.

Nobody really liked them, which is why they were already being discontinued and phased out after just one year...
