this is over a 68 size shell, fits very tight so probably for a size 66

Not sure what you want to know Giorgio ? Are you asking if yours is real, or are you asking if any of them are real ?

In case it is the latter, here is one of the many threads devoted to the famous ( infamous ?) box of covers found a few years ago :

yes I was trying to understand if this were considered real now based on some new discovery, I saw one sold quick on the e stand for good money.
I got mine in San Diego California and was part of a collection I got from the collector daughter but he was in the hospital and than died so could not ask were this came from.

Unlike the boxed ones, your's appears to have been on a helmet. When did you acquire it ?

Giorgio, did you pick up the cover on a helmet or just the cover? It is obvious your cover has been on a helmet for a while and I like the materials it is constructed from. Were I going to own an example, yours would be it.

PS: it helps that your photography is excellent!

IMO, the one that was sold on the E-Stand is original and one of that lot. The one Giorgio has posted is not exactly the same. To me from these photos the drawstring, marking, side and inside rim tape, as well as the basic fabric as seen on the inside, are different.

Whether everyone agrees on the lot (as in the one being sold) are original is still a matter of personal opinion, but one thing is certain; they have now made fakes of that lot.

Some keep track of the 20 that were found. Does that mean there are not more? Who knows. Some are cautious about that lot, mainly because we have not seen them before or in photos. Caution is wise in this hobby.

I was a doubter until I handled a couple. The "box lot" are very fragile. Some have been ripped when placed on a helmet.

Well there we go ............ as clear as mud !

The price achieved by the e-stand cover is still only 20% of what an equivalent ( and far more common ) splinter cover would sell for. That is a clear indication of the confusion these cause.

There has never been total agreement amongst the most knowledgeable and astute FJ collectors on this forum , and probably never will be - at least not until that magic war-time photo appears !

I will have this at the SOS so if you are there you can see in hand, the material if very light but again i never saw one in period pictures ( yet )
