FJ Helm "out of the woodwork"

This recently came to me, never before in a collector's hands. Not part of my usual collecting realm, but I'm convinced it's nearly unused. The leatherwork is a little dry, as is the foam. I think it's a later war variant? My knowledge only extends to a general awareness of the bolt types and paint. Thought I would share, thanks.

Looks like CKL 4951 or 4954? Very light stamping.

          Hi,

Agree with Roger. And with steel bolts

Very nice example. I agree is appears to be unissued, with some storage aging.

In regards to the bolts, is the later war transition generally aluminum slotted > steel slotted > steel split pin? The nuts are aluminum on this one.

Before I got a hold of it, it was to be thrown in the dustbin. Makes one think how often that has occurred.

                        Thanks for the comments.

I am sure some great items have been thrown out for decades. Growing up we always knew garbage collectors used to find some great items.

Yes, steel slotted were late and after aluminum slotted. Aluminum nuts on the I side are pretty common on these.

Glad you could rescue this helmet.
