    just found a dog tag marked as follow:

    62849/241

    any idea of the unit?

              Good one. This is the photo of mine. If those dog tags were ever issued those solders should knew each other. Unfortunately it is as probable as that dog tags were never issued.

                  Situation in which a soldier lost his dog tag in action was common. I remember that I saw information that it might happen to approximmately 20% of soldiers. In such a situation, a soldier received a new dog tag (from unit in which he was in that moment), which was noted in his Wehrpass / Soldbuch. That is why every unit HQ had prestamped replacement dog tags in number that equals 20% of soldiers in this unit. Such a dog tags groups are quite often found. They are 100% original but they were never used by soldiers.
