Strange clothing perception in a Fj. Soldbuch

    Hello all

I want to show here a strange case of Empfangene Dienstbekleidung related to a member of 3. Fj. Division.
After Normandy battle, and when division was in north-east of Holland for refitting, he got several unusual clothes for a classic parachutist :

The first part of the clothing is very usual :

But the second part is surprising : he got indeed near all the parts of a uniform's aircrew member :

...the same day as the normal dress of a parachutist :

How to explain that he got such different clothes and equipment at the same time ? Nevertheless, he was a ordinary soldier (Obergefreiter) in a parachute division.
Do you have an idea ?

Things were pretty chaotic after August 1944 leading up to the end of the year. Units were being moved, those that were nearly destroyed in France were being rebuilt from scratch. It must have been difficult to provide the many needed items for refitting of these units. Some of the planning was already underway for the Ardennes Offensive, Wacht am Rhein (WaR) and stockpile of material was being prepared. The 3e FJD was "hastily" refitted and was filled with men from excess LW units.

It is conceivable that when it was time to issue items to this Obergereiter, he received what was available at the time. Remember Hitler wanted WaR to begin in late November with 38 divisions. You can imagine the amount of logistics that had to be diverted and prepared for this event. (Even though the 3e FJD was slated to participate, they were locked in fighting near the Huertgen) These items were issued to your man on 29 Oct, only 4 weeks away from the anticipated attack, which was of course delayed by another 2weeks.

That would be my assessment of why he was issued such items.

Compare the handwritten "1"s in "D. Flieger-Sonderbekleidung" - they look different then all the other handwritten "1" entries dated: 29.10.(44) -

Yes, the situation was difficult, and it was shortage of many things, even sometimes of clothes. But here, we have clothes too many. So... And more, some have nothing to see with the service of the soldier. Still don't understand why ?
Naxos : yes, the handwritten can be different but it does not settle the question of the double perception of flight and paratrooper effects.
