    m38 double decal Salty...

Hi all, I am being offered this helmet by a friend. It is a double decal m38, size ET68. He picked it up off a vets son who unfortunately stored it in the garage. Light rust is present all over. The paint on the outside seems intact, brush strokes are still present and some of the green paint. I assume this could be cleaned up pretty nicely by a professional. So I am posting here for a few reasons.

    1. To ensure authenticity
    2. Value? I know we are all sick of this one, unfortunately in this condition I have no idea what it is worth.
    3. Any professionals out there who could treat this helmet and help preserve it? Please dont just pm me to mail it to you.

Thank you, I did warn him to take pics before buying it.

Sorry to say for me its bad, it looks like it's been buried for sometime, then whats left of both decals look post War, the leather just looks wrong, and rest off the liner doesn't look like its been together from the start, it does not match the age of the helmet.

Also form 1943 there was a directive to remove all decals off helmets, so I would expected that there would off been no decals once the camo scheme was put on this helmet. its just all wrong.

Thank you Martin. My focus is edged weapons and firearms, but before I ever consider anymore helmets thats my next move.

Hmmm... either your friend is not telling you the truth, or the Vet's son has been lying ! Bad fake.

                            +1.

There is no substitute for research, particularly where the investment of large sums of money is concerned.

For what it's worth, the decals were the first things that I noticed were 'off'.
