    M38 Fallschirmjäger helmet?

    Dear all,

I got a helmet and I m not sure, if this is a genuine FJ helmet or maybe a
    BGS (Bundesgrenzschutz) helmet.

I m not a specialist for FJ stuff and hope to get a good vote for this helmet .

At first, unfortunately I found no markings in it - otherwise it were to easy

Thank you for your fast answer - but I not agree with you.

If this is a fake from a WH helmet, I miss the two other "side holes" for fixing the liner.

The hole on the back of the helmet, seems made after the war to fix a shovel handle.
After the war were Helmets used for several works in Germay:
Shovel for lime, wheat, coal or dung.

For your suggestion I miss the other holes for the liner. There are no markings from welding on the sides.
Are the holes welded and masked, why they don´t do this with the back hole?
          - Would be this "fake" made from a late BGS helmet "heeres model",
than there would be not any holes for liner. Then would be no back hole there.
          - If this "fake" made from BGS "FJ model" you don´t need this "additional" back hole too.

This is a pile of junk,it was never nor will ever be an original FJ helmet...it is a cut down WH helmet...you have already been told this ,so why ask in the first place?, if you don't want to believe what people tell you is the truth?...,listen i know another good Doctor in Paris,he works with people who are in denial,i can send you his details if you want them and his charges are reasonable and the cure will be quick!

It is not an original WWII FJ shell. I will not claim to know what it is, just what it is not.

Just for information. Today I was at one of the most famous military market in europe, many traders and big collectors told me, the shell is a good one...
Anyway it is possible that all these people can been wrong - okay I believe you.

But I miss some facts for your opinion of the shell. Maybe someone can explain me the different,
between an "original" and my "fake" shell. Than I could learn something new

Enjoy your shell and good luck in collecting.

BTW, could you show us photos of the markings? Lot number, size and maker mark.

I agree with purpom, this could be an original shell reused after the war for another purpose. Many helmets had this faith, I also own a similar one.
I like the patina and the rust looks old to me, not artificially aged. Of course the hole has been made to fix a handle or something similar. Just I don't like the rim, that looks a bit too tiny to me, but I may be wrong. Maybe this is a size 71?

Thank you very much for your valuation, Ironc.
One trader from the market told me this must be an 71 shell and
a trader for reproduction liner from Trier confirm this.

I will let weld the hole and restore the burned paint and set it to my collection.

Unfortunately, no markings because of the rust inside.
