engraved gravity knife

I have been offered a gravity knife jeweller engraved into metal top of handle a name on one side and a feldpost number on other side. L33525 and Major, i G , v ,Hofmann. The v could be von . Would it be possible to trace original owner of it. Also why engrave a gravity knife with a feldpost number???
