The "new" rust is probalby from the roof that was leeking into the helmet, this is how the helmet was found. (New roof on the house) The leather is very hard and fragile, I guess from being wet.

I can find a lotnumber, but down't know yet where to look for other the maker/size code.

Any Idea how much a helmet in this condition is going for?

Here are some close ups from the inside, hopefully this helps. Other pictures can be made ofcourse.

After little rust removing I could read this number "5059" I guess it is. I could not find other inscription, but I should look again!

To me the chinstrap and liner band pads look original. The zinc liner band looks ok as well. And I doubt a fake decal would hold up like that if this were a heavily aged fake. So.....

But, the rust is so bad and easy to do on fake shell. You might wait until guys like 'Sturm74' see it.

It looks like it has a good chance but when they are in this condition I would really need to see the helmet "in hand".

I've had a few and I always have to look at the liner, strap, shell, then I have to figure out if any of the pieces were replaced... etc.

Then I always get a few others to give it a good look because the fakers are trying harder and harder to get their formula right on these.

I would say it's good relic , everything looks correct and original but like already being said better make final conclusion in hand .
Looking for FJR2 combat pics in Russia.

Thank all of you for your opinions and information.

I'm only a small collector of military items (this will be the first german helmet I own of ww2)... Probably/maybe I was lucky that day.

I bought the helmet this summer on a flea market (like garage sales). The couple had found the helmet when cleaning the house of one of their parents. They had no idea what helmet it was. I asked if it was a motor helmet... (in Belgium we have ww2 motor helmets that look little similar that you find here alot). They could not say... So... let us say I bought the helmet rather cheap

I thought there were 2 options for this helmet, an old reproduction of the 50's, 60's or maybe 70's. Or... a real one.

I guess next year I go back on holidays to the ardennes

It´s a shame, 10 years ago it had probably a very nice appearance...
                      Regards,

Looks 100% spot on to me. The damage is way too original to look genuine faked and all parts look good to me. Now do you leave as is, or try and restore it.....
