Zug Witzig - Then & Now

In Juni I visited along with Michael and Hugo the fortress of Eben Emael.
We decided to make a inside tour with a guide and later in the day we visited the top of the fortress where the gliders landed.
We had a great day and I would recommend anyone to visit the fort ..

Michael is in possession of two photos which we only knew that they had been taken there in the area of Eben Emael….... but where exactly. After having spoken with a guide and asked him if he had any idea where the photos were taken,he referred us to the village Kanne.

After having looked around for a while in Kanne to find the exact location of the 2 pictures, we arrived at Chateau Neercanne . First we thought we had found one of the photo locations in the courtyard of the Chateau. But unfortunately that was not the location. But when we walked a few hundred meters further and found another cave entrance ……..Bingo ….and 20 meters further the second location .

I put the two pictures of Michael and a couple area pictures and some more information photos of Kanne in this thread.
Last I really want to thank Michael and Hugo for the great day and any help.

Another picture of the same wall.
Hugo spoke to an old man who said that the wall is shortened (the white part on the left now). Also a piece of the ground /mountain has been leveled (you can clearly see on the first picture)

And a site about the Chateau Neercanne .
The Chateau was used as a German Headquarter.
That might explain the location of the 2 pictures

Very well presented Remco. I spoke to Michael last week about the trip and he said you lot had a great time. I have never been to the fort but hope to get there one day.

                    tour

About 3 years ago I took the lengthy tour and by the end of it when the guide asked "Are there any questions" everything had been covered in such detail that there was literally nothing left to ask. Every hook in the wall was explained to the nth detail. This was the tour in German and I believe the one in English might not be quite as detailed so I was told, but highly recommended in any language. They have everything covered from both Belgian and German perspectives.

                        Thanks guys .

Pauke we took the inside tour of 2,5 hours in English.
Must say this tour was also very extensive .Explanation of the cables under the floor, the tubes on the wall, about the black smudges on the wall of the cables (when they unroll the cables for under the floor) ,you also had the opportunity to climb into an observation dome. A demonstration of the working dome/turret (North) and much, much more…..
These people/guides just know so much to tell about the fortress. Very impressive.
