    Hi john,

i presume then that this eagle has been cut from a tunic, carefully by the looks of things so as not to damage the zig-zag stitching and hand sewn to the smock
to give the unwitting collector the appearence of factory applied insignia.
    would i be correct?
    Cheers
    Bob

I believe you are correct Bob.

I've seen this done to an authentic splinter step in smock that had it's breast eagle closely cut out. Another early greun backed eagle, with original zig zag stitching, was carefully handsewn back in place. This was so well done that it was only evident on personal inspection, it was not visible in photos.

Only Bruce can say if you are correct about his eagle, as only he has hands on inspection.

Here is the eagle that was put on when these were made. Remember, these smocks were made for reenactors, others had other motives. KC is one of them. Enough said.

On close inspection of the eagle, yes it has a line of machine stitching just inside the edge and another row of what is obviously hand stitching around the edge. Fantastic, I payed all that money for an original breast eagle. Never been happier.

Gerard is presently auctioning off what I believe to be a reproduction flight jacket on ebay. It has reproduction Prym 6 snaps on it. I thought it would be worth giving everyone an opportunity to see what they may look like. Here is a link to the auction:

Jack, why do you think those Prym snaps are bad? The photos are not that good (on my computer), but I do see something on those snaps that the repros do not usually have.

I can not speak on the flight jacket, but the markings sure look odd. He also states that he has the matching trousers.

                Hello Willi,

I think Jack is right. The snaps are bad. I have a similar pic about this kind of " PRYM 6 " snaps ( see attached pic ).....

If this Filegerjacke is a new made repro, note how well the construction & stitches are made, again, except the snaps.

                Regards,

                Joseph

Joseph, I think you are right. Now that I am on a different computer the photos are much clearer, and I can now see the last two photos on the bottom (not sure why I couldn't before). Those last two shots show some areas of "concern". I had not seen that color of field gray used on the caps of the snaps before though.

Where did you find the photo you presented? Do we know where these snaps are coming from? I know you study these features pretty closely.

                  Thanks......Willi

Thanks, Joseph. I have been out of touch all day and couldn't respond earlier. I suspected the snaps after viewing both the jacket and the trousers. In my opinion, undoubtedly both reproductions. But, maybe Gerard can jump in here and give us a bit more info on both.

And reproduction "RiRi"s on the trousers??? Take a look and see what you think? I think that they are also reproduction but will of course listen to those more knowledgeable to me. Here are the trousers: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWA:IT

                        Hello Willi,

I found the pic from German eBay about 9 months ago. I've noticed that this kind of press snaps almost on the repro bandoleers. Here are some pics, what a fantacy FJ item!!!

BTW, I noticed that there are at lease 4 variants of " PRYM " press snaps are used in the period time. Should we discuss this subject in public on the forum?

                        Regards,
                        Joseph
