Is this a genuine Fallschirmschutzenabzeichen ?

    Good evening,
Today I recieved from a good friend this Fallschirmschutzenabzeichen.
Is this a genuine one? - if so, what "model" would this be?
    It has no makers mark.

What would be - if genuine - a reasonable value?
    Thanks
    Peter

      This is an S&L Fallschirmschützenabzeichen.

Not often to see, that the hinge and catch is directly soldered at the wreath without a plate on Steinhauer badges.....it`s an badge, that it is not easy to spot imo.

S&L made so much different variants.....

        Hello Joe

        Thanks for the information.

I realise that it is always a bit "sticking your neck out" with an opinion
(for sure if it is the 1st after + 200 hits on the thread !)

I, as a non-specialist stared at so many internet pictures and at the end realy didn't know anything more ... (I started to think it was a Junker)

        Vielen dank!
        Peter

        any idea about value?

          Hi Peter,

it was not hard to say, that it is an S&L para badge!

But the para production of S&L is for me a bit like a jungle. I have often problems to put they para badges into the right production time frame: War made, or post war made.

I can often go only with my feeling when i see an S&L para badge.

            Hello all,
Anyone interested to obtain this badge?
I prefer to collect/buy books, so if the badge went, it wouldn't be missed..
It just lies in the cupboard where it collects dust
            If interested : PM
            Cheers

                Hi Peter

This is a "Cupal Eagle" Para badge by S&L as the other guys have said. These are almost certainly all post war produced, and your example is a later, lower quality one with weird reverse hardware. The large ridge flaw on the eagles wing is much more pronounced than on the wartime S&L eagles made from zinc (S&L continued to use the same die after the war to produce these fakes as well as their 1957er badges).

The wreath looks like zinc, but with the hardware soldered directly to it makes me think it is not zinc but rather some modern alloy. The hardware itself is not the typical S&L hardware and the rivets are also not like S&L used either wartime or postwar. With all that said, my feeling is that this might not have been made by S&L but rather someone else using S&L parts. Hard to be sure about this, but with all the inconsistencies with S&L it looks like it to me.

In either case, not an original badge. Original S&L badges in zinc are very hard to come by, compared to these cupal eagle variants which are much more common to find. S&L was very busy after the war.

                Tom
If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

                  Hello Tom
Many thanks for your very profound evaluation.
This clears realy things out for me.
As it was a gift from a retired Bundeswehr Colonel, I think he owes me now some beers!
