A foto of the mag would be good. FG 42 mags are really rare.

                It's no doubt a 1st model FG42 magazine. I hope it helps.

                Regards,

                Joseph

I hope you left it uncleaned. It looks realy fascinating like that. Untouched for 60 years.

                      Hi all,

Thanks for help and comments. Yes we've discuted about it, Joseph . Of course i've leaved untouched. I just want to show it to other members, and we can stiil find nice items in normandie. I became an association member today but apparently, i've problem to post pics.

                      Best regards

                        Hello,
You might want to clean up that magazine and salvage the spring, there is a STRONG demand for these magazines by the FG42 owners in the USA.

                        Regards,
                        Robert

I think finds like that are fascinating!

The weapons collector in me says clean it up and put it away.

The FJ collector in me says to leave it exactly as found. There is something about finding such an item that has been untouched for the last 60 years. Especially when found on/near the battlefield in which it was carried. We just don't have that luxury here in the US.

I have a tan FJ bandoleer that is still packed with ammo and stripper clips. The snaps are rusted shut so there is no way to even inspect the ammo. It was one of my more unique finds, IMO. I just had to leave it the way it is.

                            Willi,

I agree with you that it is a neat find and really a treat for people who like FG items. As a German gun guy I just can't imagine watching that magazine continue to rust and decay.

I think one might take a nice selection of pictures of it and where it was found and then get that rust off, maybe leave the bullets in the condition they were found but get them off that spring.

                            Either way a neat find!
