Photos from the top of Mt. Cairo (Battle of Cassino)

When we speak about the battle of Cassino, it is difficult to understand fully the battlefield if we have never been in that area. I am lucky, because I live here and want to show what was the point of view of Germans who had their observers on top of Mt. Cairo.
These shots were taken directly from the top of Monte Cairo. Now I hope is clear why the Germans could see everything that happened in the valley for miles around.

Superbly well done as always Marco!

What is all that white stuff in the foreground? Cairo is high, you did some hiking?

            Very best,

Marco, thanx, I always struggled to get a perspective of the batttle. This has helped greatly.

I have just gone through your thread about the Cassino campain to find pics of the battle in the town around 17/18 March by the railway station and sheds. Found some pics, any more period pics of that? Jacques

Hi Big John! Go to Monte Cairo is not difficult ... just pass by Terelle, behind the battlefield. The real mystery is to know what are the circles you see arrowed...

Excellent as ALWAYS Marco! You've given us great perspective.

Those circles are interesting. Has a farmer plowed the ground in circles around the peak?

Maybe those circles are some sort of vortex!!

No..I think nothing to do with farmers. Same circles are also 15 km south of Mt. Cairo, on another top of hill near the Village of San Vittore del Lazio...here you can see.

                            Marco, amazing as always.
What I'd give to spend time taking pictures of these battlefields of Europe.

                              Greetings Marco,

I noticed those in post five, and did think cultivation. Now it is clear they are rocks, so do they date to prehistoric times like Stonehenge? Would like to hike Cairo and see these someday.

                              Best,
