68 years ago today my Great great Uncle was killed in action in the area of Patrica di Mare, Italy. He was aboard a plane when it came under attack, everybody bailed out but when it was his turn it was to late and the plane impacted with the ground. He was eventually buried in the war cemetery in Pomezia. He had just left Kriegslazarett 932 in Nimes and was with 9.Fallschirmjager Regiment 2. He held the rank of Oberjager and was a squad leader (Gruppenfuhrer). He had previously served with Transport-Kompanie Flieger-Division 7 and 5.Fallschirmjager Regiment 2. He had jumped on Rotterdam, Kreta and had served in Rshew-Russia. He had turned 22 on June 13.

Patrica di Mare was heavily used by FJD.2 during this period, although the perils of Ju 52 transport from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:country-region w:st="on">France</st1:country-region> to I<st1:country-region w:st="on">taly</st1:country-region> during 1943 are rarely highlighted so thank you. <O</O
