        James,

using your first page I finally was able to identify a FJ vehicle marking. The diamond S is the 7th Parachute Regiment. Here is a photo that was posted previously on another thread. Thanks - Bill

Wonderful set of insignias! Great efforts!

I am particularly interested in 51 and 53, because these insignias have not been clearly identified (I mean with evidence). Schmitz/Thies attributes them to Flak-Division 20 and Flak-Division 19 respectively, but my friend Kitamura-san is against both with a reason. We have photographic evidences (examples) of both markings on our files, but we would be happy if we can pinpoint the correct unit!

Thanks Bill for posting the insignia!

If anyone knows of a FJ insignia that I missed or have not identified correctly please let me know. I wanted to put these up so we could collectively review them and discuss.

Akira, thanks for info on 51 and 53. Any chance you could share the photos you mention? I would be interested to hear more about Kitamura-san's opinion.

            - James

              insignia

Thanks for posting the list, item 9 this emblem was used for the Ramke brigade in North Africa, and not the second division (as far as I am aware) there were also variations with either a small 'k' 'vH' or 'H' just to the bottom right of the diamond depending which battalion in the brigade was being identified.

About 10 years ago a book on FJs published in France called "Les Parchutistes Allemands 1937/1945" published alot of information on FJ unit insignia. Here is a page from that book. It also lists many other bits of insignia on the various pages. Hard to knwo what the source is, and how accurate it is. Another publication in Japan also published alot of FJ unit insignia. I think I have that somewhere, with translations.

                      Hi All,

My friend James has sent me an update on a few FJ insignia:

Please find attached another graphic containing a few more regimental insignias. It contains two new pieces and an updated version of number 10. If you could add it to the thread when you a chance, along with this explanation:

                      10. 3rd Fallschirm Division - This is more accurate rendition of the insignia above - I found a great photo and description that indicates the design incorporates the initial S (for Schimpf, the division commander) and the number three. So I redid the art in light of this information.

                      61. Sturm Regiment - early unit insignia, later replace by the Komet.

                      62. II Fallschirm Korps - also known as the Meindl Badge.

Source for this information: German Paratroopers by Robert Kurtz. I should also note that the examples in the book are credited to Chris Mason

                        Hey Willi,

The book in your photo was my primary source for the above insignias, I too wondered how accurate they are, thus my motivation for posting them. I am hoping we can verify some of them.

                        Paul,

After reading your post regarding #9 I decided to do some more digging. I agreed with your observation, but was curious as to why it was credited to the 2nd Div. This is what I found:

"2. Fallschirmjager Division - this was formed in 1942, initially as a brigade known as Ramcke Brigade after its commander, and in this form it saw service in North Africa in 1942, before moving to Italy and being reorganized as a division. In both manifestations the formation sign was kite outline with a large R inside it signifying its commander, General Ramcke.

A subsidiary initial (K, vH, H, B) indicated the different regimental commanders according to sub-unit. The sign was usually in black on a white rectangle. The initials indicated the following battalion commanders: K - Kroh or Kargerer, vH - von der Heydte, H - Hubner, B - Burckhardt. The subsidiary initial was not always carried."

I got this information from "7th Flieger Division, Student's Fallschirmjager Elite" by Chris Ellis

Once again thanks to Bill for helping me out, and if anyone can confirm or deny any of the above insignias please help us out. I will continue to post art work as I get more information.

                        - James

                          Hi,

The insignia of the First Parachute Corps on the http://www.wwiidaybyday.com/ website is totaly different from the one in the list above.

The insignia shown there looks a lot like the insignias of the Second Parachute Corps that are posted here, but are not quite the same.

                          Maybe both are used?

Any sign known of 7. Flieger Division? (noticed 7th Flight Corps but a Corps and a Division are not the same)
