Any info on FJ Erich Ritterhoff ...

    Hi guys,

I mainly collect 57er badges, but some time ago I won a small group of eBay belonging to Hauptmann Erich Ritterhoff.
Bundeswehr WehrpaB des Heeres, his dogtag and a 57er ribbon bar.

Since then I have been ( unsuccessfully ) been searching for info on him.
Frankly, besides "googling" his name, I dont know where to start looking .

Hence, I'm hoping some of you have detailed study materials where his name could pop up.
I have no clue as to which regiment he belonged during the war, so I assume not an easy task ...

So guys, if any of you can help me out, please do post away .

    Much thanks in advance,
    Mathijs

Interestingly on this picture he is wearing the Heeres FJ badge, but in his Wehrpass it says a Luftwaffe FJ badge ????

Anyway, your comments and input much appreciated !

            Hi Matthijs,

The wehrpass states that Ritterhoff received his FJ badge in the summer of 1938. That was before the Heer Paras were absorbed into the Luftwaffe on January 1, 1939, so it would make sense that Ritterhoff was originally one of the Army Paratroopers. In that case, he would have been in the Heeres Fallschirm-Infanterie-Battaillon.

After January 1, 1939, the Heer FIB was absorbed into the LW and become the 2nd Battaillon of FJR 1 (II/FJR1). After July 1, 1940, many guys from II/FJR1 would form the nucleous of the new FJR 3, so you can also look there for your guy.

            Good luck with your search.

            Tom
If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Here is the other ribbon bar that was sold with the Ritterhoff group posted above. I happened to come across the photos which I had saved some time ago.

              Best regards
