In pockets of early flightpants for pilots was a small ring sewn-in (simular to watch-chain-ring) - might been the same here?

There's no ring in my pair of jump trousers, but there does appears to be a very poorly sewn piece of rayon material that may be a sort of loop.
Thought you would know the answer to this one Patrick - given the number of pairs you own !

Anyone have a pair with a ring inside the knee ?

Yes I have some - but not an very early pair...
Guess only those had the ring, later it was up to the wearer how to fix it.

                Gravity Knife from Uffz Birzer

                Hi

Here the gravity Knife from Uffz Birzer glider pilot, that with his DFS 230 crashed the July 23, 1944.

A part of the lanyard was found with a knife in 2012 with the remains of Birzer, the other party was found in 2016, near the tomb and the crash.

Unusual Mr. S. Here is another unusual lanyard, at least unusual when found on gravity knives.

Must the lanyard always have the carabiner hooks? Mine came with the knife.

Do you mean that someone from Island defenders captured this knife and added the lanyard ? Creta definately not German word ...

Yes, it is a British pistol lanyard, so maybe a Brit, or Kiwi souvenir.

Very interesting detail, this means that knife continued to use further in actions but from other side/
