    Can you guess the background of this photo?

    Chris posted a photo a few weeks back and asked people to guess its origins. That was fun and thought I would try one. You may be surprised.

                The American military were well-known for taking pictures of their own men wearing captured German uniform items.

                Such pictures were used by military intelligence to aid troop identification and to assist uniform development in the US.

                This guy looks too 'chubby' to be a German para!

                A US army desk-jockey, perhaps??

                He has that 'What the heck am I doing dressed up in enemy uniform?' look!

                  I agree - in fact he appears t be the same 'model' demonstrating the wear of a W-SS zeltbahn on page 44 of Mike Beaver's camo book. Note the similar background.

                            I'm at a very early learning stage regarding the Fj and their equipment but... is this an Fj helmet cover?? I can see no band for foliage and the camo looks... well, not Luftwaffe??

                              That's a SS helmet cover. Maybe at the time, these guys thought it was paratrooper.
