    More pics

    Karl,

could you post some pictures of it ??
If you come to the Ciney show at the end of the month? maybe you can bring it along Would love to see it !

Here are some more pics of the mysterious bandoleer and close-ups of the buttons.

I found an Rbnr and a faint "44" on the lower inner edga of the bandoleer, but the ink is too faint to show in the pictures or scans I took.

    OK guys : shoot !

        Hi Werner,

The construction looks accurate, but I think not enough is known about these for a "good" or "bad" call. I ask myself, "why make these when the late mustard bandoleers were in full production? Why does it not have the kind of snaps common to late war bandoleers. Why HBT?"

The snaps bother me most, and based on them I would not buy this for my collection. Just my opinion, no facts........

          Hey Guys,
I will have to agree with John on this one, the bottons look post war, I think I saw a similar pair on pouches, the material is wartime, So I will stick to my original post, good material but made after the war.

PS Does anyone have any refrence photos
of German military bottons after the war?

The snaps are wartime, however, doesn't have to mean the bandoleer is.
It looks very well made and I could imagine fakers using different materials rather than some obscure (but wartime) snaps and Sumpf pattern HBT material.

              Hi Ben,

For the record, I'm not saying the snaps are bad, just that I would not own this bandoleer with them on it. While "never say never" over the years I've seen patterns in Luftwaffe production; most jump smocks have prym snaps, bandoleers have many styles, but these snaps are not among them. Additionally, I have seen reproduction jump smocks that had authentic snaps (and authentic breast eagles) applied to them.

Fakers use all kinds of materials, both logical and fanciful, to dupe collectors. I once heard of an "all leather experimental first model jump smock;" that's in the realm of tropical side lace boots. So I don't credit them much reason or logic in how they do their deceptions.

              Regards,
              John

                Buttons

                Thanks guys ,

this bandoleer is not for sale . It's in a friends collection and he asked me my opinion because it is a camo item. I am not an expert in FSJ stuff, so I turned to this forum.

Here is what I think :
                -camo looks good
                -construction looks good
-drillich ( HBT ) looks good
-buttons are puzzling ( not good not bad)
-combination ( HBT + sumpfmuster) is so rare that I have my reserve untill photographic evidence shows up ( if it ever does )

Conclusion : we are back where we started it is not a "throw away" and it is not a "super item"
For some collectors it won't fit their standards to enter their collection, for some collectors it is convincing enough to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Finally : if any information should emerge ( similar buttons on 100% authentic items) , sumpf + HBT ... keep in touch.
