He gave no money to me, i never !!!!!!!!!!! sell things from my father.
I promised this to my father. And he promised to give the things back an
    gave me his hand.

    Sorry about my english.
Your English is indeed excellent Bernd. It is good to know your side of this, so thanks for explaining. But you should never lend something this important to another without some signed documentation. How well do you know George?

I hope George Cone will reply and explain soon. I too have emailed him, with a link to this thread, asking him to reply.

    Regards,
    John

Hard lesson to learn This just breaks my heart to hear, if I lost any of my Dad's personal WW II militaria I would be crushed!
I sure hope it works out for you and your precious items are returned soon & unharmed.

I remember Mr. Cone...I seem to remember also that his father fought at Cassino (or Cassino area). I think he would no happy if the same thing happened to him.
I hope you have back your items very fast.

Hold your horses, cowboys! Looks like folks want to lynch Mr. Cone based on an accusation that hasn't been proven to be fact. I don't have a dog in this fight, but as in many postings on this forum many are eager to pile on without waiting for all the facts in the matter. Ed

                My thoughts EXACTLY!

I certainly feel bad for Bernd and I most certainly hope that George Cone contact him behind the scenes. There is certainly no obligation for him to respond to a thread on a forum on such a matter.

This is not an easy matter to handle. What if a veteran gave me something and a family member wants it returned? I am not saying that is the case in this matter, but I have seen an awful lot go on in this hobby. I suspect everyone here has received something of value from a veteran. Everyone here has also probably paid a veteran far less for an item than what it is worth; whether it be the veteran who the item belonged to or the veteran who brought the item home.

What proof is there on this matter? Proof that George was given the helmet? Proof that George was loaned the helmet? Proof that George is supposed to return it? Proof that the veteran gave the helmet to him?

How did the documents get away from the family? Is this about money? I will say I am highly suspicious of the motive and interest of some others in this matter.

I am not taking sides, but I am not going to allow a public lynching based on one side of the story. The whole matter is not for a forum, especially this section, to handle.

I do encourage George to contact Bernd, and only Bernd, on this matter. It is the right thing to do.

Nothing against Mr. Cone Ed, I told only "I hope you have back your items very fast"...I have not even an horse.
It is strange what happened, I did not accuse anyone, perhaps it is just a misunderstanding and Mr. Cone will explain (not to me or others, but to the owner of material).

The vet has already passed away (april 2008) before the helmet was "given" (may 2008) - of course based so far only on the infos provided by Bernd.

                    Just to point this out.

Well Patrick, that only adds to my suspicious nature.

This is the site in question, I can find your father's name listed there. The helmet hasn't been posted it seems.

However that thing turns out in the end, good luck!
Strange that photos of the helmet have not been placed on his website under this man's vet profile after 2 years time. The helmet is easy to identify and I am sure the helmet will find its way back into your hands Bernd. Beautiful helmet.....

Of course - in our hobby you can never be suspicious enough. Concerns both buying / selling, and for sure "borrowing" items out.

THIS case here is of course only the matter between Bernd and George, and should not be discussed in public - but would love to hear how it turns out in the end.

Unfortunately I have met many vets / vets families whos stuff was also "borrowed", and they never got it back, or only fakes or xeroxes of docs, etc.

Also, could not understand how somebody would give away "holy" stuff from his father to a complete stranger, who is not even from same country, or even continent - so no way just taking the car and visit him, to get the items back?

I would never borrow stuff - foto could be taken anywhere anytime, and send worldwide in secs, so why there is need to take it, just to take some fotos?

                          Lots of questions...

                            Gentlemen,

John H. alterted me to this post today while at work.
I have just now had a chance to look at it.

I feel the noose around my neck already!

FYI: There are several HOLES in this story.

Gee, and there is already a lawyer/judge ready to pass sentence on me. Imagine that!

I will be in touch with Bernd, not to worry.

                              Mr. Cone,

what are " several holes " in the story ???????
Tell me, and i can close these!

I contacted you many, many times without any answer or reaction.
To close these holes, we can ask the man from the Nürnberger
Fallschirmjägerkameradschaft ( you know the name ). He came
with you to us and hear all about your promise to bring back the helmet
and the Kartentasche. And he saw that you
                              gave me your hand.
Since i try to contact you although these man try to get an contact to you,
he is very dissapointed. And he is an witnesss of our agreement that
you will give my things back !

                              Bernd
