They are wearing LW light y-straps and rucksacks. You can tell by the hooks. Also note that the K98s have muzzle covers fitted.

That foto brings a story back to my mind, a friend (member of 5. SS-Panzer "WIKING") once told me: He was sent for training to the Junkerschule Tölz, they were trained with 8cm mortars. After the training they were so muddy and wet they went to the showers, fully dressed, and with their weapons...

also reminds me of a scene from the film "All quiet on the Western Front" where the main character is reprimanded and is marched through mud, these guys are baby faced but think how young some 18 year olds look these days,

I'd also add that they doesn't looks like German people, much more from the eastern Or did i say a B.....t? Nice photo anyway!
