All four bolts look exactly the same. All have some spray on them.

Well I just "touched" some acetone on a Q-tip to the rim and the paint came right up. A tan color under the luft color that also came right up. Appears that the original worn green is underneath.

          Ahhh looking much better...

Paint is very easy to remove. On the outer shell there was an initial tan paint covered with the luft blue. Only using a little acetone on a paper towel. Really doesnt require any scrubbing. The blue paint on the inside lip is difficult to remove. I believe its because it doesnt have that tan base coat.

Still undecided on what to do with the adler. Was a black mark on the wing. when I took some of the paint off around it the black mark extended to the original paint. I cant see how its original to the shell though. It appears close up that it may have been touched up.

In "circle" 1 the blue paint appears to extend over the adler. In circle 2 is the black mark that extends to the original paint.

The slotted steel bolts should not have paint on them. So, at best you have an original helmet which someone, perhaps after reading all the books up through the '80s which speak of blue FJ helmets, painted the helmet. Clearly a postwar paint job.

Good job with the paint, but don't get the acetone anywhere near the decal !!

Unfottunately had a little mistake. Got a touch of acetone on the upper part of a wing. went to wipe it off and took a little of the decal with it. Not bad though. Will need to find something more delicate for around the decal.

Should I remove the liner to keep it safe. The blue goes to the bottom of the liner band?

Ok I have removed the liner. Steel bolts all around. Only the inner aluminum nuts. does not have the outer aluminum nut. from the looks of the wear the inside nuts had been in the correct location at one time. So where did the outer nuts go? Someone just couldnt figure it out the last time they took it apart and only used one each?

The green paint is original from the liner band up into the dome. still has the faint dome stamp. Now taking the paint off it appears the helmet much better matches the liner/strap wear.

So minus the original issue. If cleaned up and put back together as a prob toyed with original what would the value of this be? You can PM me
