Tribute to Dr. Walter Schad, FJR 6

    Okay, I looked up the name of the doctor killed at Normandy. His name was Dr. Heinz Roos and he was actually awarded the German Cross in Gold, not Silver. Although his official date of award was 1 January 1945, he actually received the award before he was killed. Unfortunately, he is not listed on the German War Graves Web site.

      Hi everyone,

      This thread is a great tribute to a great man, indeed. I was lucky enough to meet him while he lived in Mallorca, three years ago. He was a very kind man, and although he was very old, his vitality was enviable.
      Enclosed is a photo taken in 2 July 2006. As for his experience with the FJR 6 by Normandy, I was quite impressed when I was told by him that in 24 hours, in 12 June 1944, his unit had around 800 wounded.
