Today I want to tell a story in some photographs. The reconstruction of the Monastery of Montecassino began with the first stone March 15 1945 and ended only in 1956. But before it was necessary to remove and analized 400,000 cubic meters of rubble to search for what could be reused for the reconstruction, remove unexploded bombs and to provide dignified burial numerous corpses of civilians and soldiers killed since february to May 1944.
This reconstruction was made with Italian money, in part made available by the State, in part by donations from the many Italian immigrants around the world. The total cost was 1.480 million of lire at that time.
