Guys, water pattern was widespread used in Italy too... I surely do not have a large photo archive, but believe me, have seen many exaples in the years in collections of water smocks found here. Italy was a battlefield till the very end... there should be no reason to send the "new pattern" only in some areas and ot in others. Of course, a fact is also that if an individual could choose, splinter was always the favourite. My two eurocents...

Yes, a splinter or green would be more appropriate. But heck, water pattern sure looks cool! I guess because the one I used came back from a depot in Italy it would look nice.

I do wonder when, if ever, they wore water pattern smock in Italy. Anyone have any photos?

I know a FJ who was wounded in May of '44 while wearing a converted green step-in. When he picked up a new smock after he returned to his unit in late May, he received a new green step-in. He was not happy as he was expecting something more "current".

Nice display John! I can never see enough of them!

I bet Chris Mason or David Bunde might have one or two in their photo collections.

Larry, one for all, the one I showed you last SOS came from Imola (east coast Italy, "British" sector)

Taken in Italy? I'd like to see them. Any period photo of a Sumpfmuster in wear is rare, all I've seen were very late war. One photo was even 45 dated on the back, of a particular dark pattern Sumpf which is also 45 dated.

John and Butch great looking mannequins, stuff displayed on mannequins brings the items to life. Tim.

                  Me too John.

If anyone has a photo like this, my guess is one of these two fellows will have it.

Has anyone seen or have pictures of late war Fallschirmjager with the pebbled soft holsters for the P-38?

I have always been on the lookout, but have only seen the 'hard' holsters when worn.

Yes it was Willi's fault for making me think of Italy

                            Very nice impression grndevil44!

I tried to do something like this myself last weekend using a live model. Although I was pleased with the result, my first attempt, one friend did not like it at all.

What do you think? Does it look the part or not? I'm thinking of adding a 'recreation' section to my website that will better demonstrate context so the feedback would be useful.

                              Wonderful helmet and smock Mike.

Use a telephoto setting next time so we are not looking so "down" on the bottom of the trousers and boots.

                              Best,
