What a great experience it must have been to be there with these men of valor. I hope to meet an FJ in person one day.

Just to shed some additional information on this thread.

Heinz Gonnermann fought in Afrika with Paratrooper Engineer Regiment Barenthin 10 KP.

His brother, August Gonnermann, fought with FJR6.

The only reason I know is because I met Heinz at the 2009 SOS and bought his "Memories of the War". He is a great guy to talk to and fun to be with.

Great thread and thanks for sharing!

      Best,

      Larry

            Thanks

Some questions ardennes1944,how many of the 6th FJ regt vets where there?.And suppose not all could make it,but then, cant be to many left, like maybe hundreads even or less probably. But then also ones that fought in normandy would be few,as losses where pretty bad,and then having to fight in the retreat to germany.Like wounded guys would have gone home, then back witht he unit in belgium etc....

And then to survive the fighting in belgium, holland, and germany. And forget as alway, but know of the lions of carentan book, that covers just normandy,or there whole history,as is there a book like this even?.And the last fighting it says in Aachen and Hürtgenwald, maybe some slip away, and then ended up in the rhur pocket?.

Dont mention them being in belgium and holland right too in 1944,as read in some books.

Thanks for the Pics, I hope to meet one of them this year. Maybe I can ask some questions about the medics in FJR 6 between battle of Carentan and the end of war.
