        Dear Erik,

The wreath is of a design that some flight badges of an unmarked maker use, so the badge stands a chance. However, it gives me mixed feelings. I do not like the appearance of the catch and catchplate. Also the aging looks strange and artificial.

To cut it short, it is not a well and widely accepted para badge design and you will have much more fun buying a para badge that conforms with one of the known makers for this badge. I would certainly not buy this badge if I was you. There will be always somebody questioning that badge and that is not a nice feeling.

        Cheers, Frank

I emailed the seller this thread and discussed my reservations, his response to me was, "Oh well, go ahead and throw it away since it's no good."

I can't do that! Is there any way I can apply something to this zinc piece to slow down the wear? It seems like a good piece to me. A guy I know, who is a welder in a shipyard, told me he often applies a little oil to zinc annodes on steel ship hulls to slow the process of electrolisis. The totally worn zinc annodes are replaced with new ones other zinc annodes get a little coat of oil. As a ship travels through water the electrolisis will attack the weakest metal, the zinc, and not the ships steel hull. So the zinc annodes serve a purpose as the weakest metal on steel hulls. Zinc tends to wear away more quickly than other metals.

Should I try a little 10W30 motor oil like the welder suggested?
What have I got to lose?

Somebody give me some input here, please.

          Gary

              Hi Erik and Gary

The badge you show is a good one IMO. I've been looking for
one of that maker for years. If you are not happy with it, just send
send it my way for a very nice profit. It would find a friendly home
              in my camp.

              Best regards
              Ken
