    Prototype FJ Lid stand

Saw Wili and his bud Sal at the Union show where Sal displayed his prototype FJ display stand. Very nice quality - it lets you display the lid without pressure on the liner and lets the straps hang. He is still working on the optimal height, but I like it! Comments for improvement? I asked for glass, which is easy..

    Helmet Stand

I like it and think the wooden stand is period and original but I'm not sure about the guy sitting behind the table.

IMHO the height should be enough to allow the liner to stand, once buttoned, suspended from basement.
I also do not like either the helmet or the guy behind the table...

Nice work but IMO it would look very much better if it would made with transparent acryl or plexi glas. The wood is to dominant and is a diversion from the helmet. It steals its show.

I had an idea and a woodworker ran with the idea and was more creative than I had hoped for. I certainly agree it is too dominant and should be more simplistic. I also agree it should be perhaps an inch taller. Too high makes it tough to display in some glass cases. The idea is to make a stand which will allow all 3 FJ helmet shell sizes to be displayed in all sorts of environmnets; book cases, glass cases, etc.

          Stay tuned......

                Keep the Wood

I say keep the wood. I can't stand acrylic or clear display stands. Willi has a idea for a simpler wood stand that I'd buy in a heart beat, so as he said, stay tuned.

                  Base

Leave the base wood, its very good looking.

Go to plexi-glass shop and have the legs made from clear plastic cheap to do

and the best of both worlds.

I use a wood base with a central wood leg, the helmet suport are made of a brass rod(screws/nuts section on Home Depot) pieces arranged in a cross pattern in the central wood suport with "heat sink" tube ends to avoid metal to metal contact, is simple, wont touch or make pressure on the liner and looks very good....IMHO!!!!

Here it is, is small and very stable, don't let the size fool you!!! I use this size to display several helmets in a single shelf, it won't distract the attention from the main piece, the helmet.

                        Hope you like it.

Base and the materials to build one.
