    FJ 1940 reference pictures ...

    Hello ...

I asked already the Dutch reenactment forum, but I hope through
this forum I will get some positive replies as well ...

I have started a (kind of) community Living History project, which
will attempt to depict the 1940 German invasion of the Netherlands
    through 3d software renders.

There were not very many pictures taken by the Dutch side, so most
of the picture material came from the German propaganda ministry, and
many were recreated after the battle.

At least one artist, Dirk van Rijn, made a number of drawings based on
eye-witness accounts which show the battles, but I haven't found
    many pictures.

Anyway, ... I am looking for reference pictures of the 1940 FJ uniforms,
without gear. I would like to use these pictures to "paint" the 3d model
    of the Fallschirmjager I made.

I have setup a webpage showing a number of models I am working on,
and it also gives a bit more information.

    http://3dhistory.nl/FSJ/english.html

In advance, thanks a lot if you can help me out a bit.

And thanks a lot for all the replies.

    Greetings.

    - Marco.

    Marco,

nice project! - Indeed, pictures from the Dutch side are scarce, prpaganda not being considered as important as in te German Army. I have a few books and will see if I can find some pics, and scan them for you. Most of them are from Rotterdam, after the battle, but there should be some of Dutch soldiers and equipment too.

One thing I can tell you - the FJ you are modelling has pockets on the front of the smock, which is incorrect. The type used in Holland did not have any pockets on the front.

Hope I can attribute in the future.

    Frank.

        Hello ...

I am Dutch myself, though living in Canada.

I found quite a number of websites in Holland. I bought a number of books.
I made some contacts with people who would like to help in different ways,
and I am in the process to setup a website with a forum. http://3dmei40.com

For Dutch references, I (we) should be well covered, but any additional
        pictures are always welcome !

To find pictures covering every inch of a FJ unform turned out to be a problem
for me. People in the Dutch forum indeed told me that to stay historically
accurate, I would need pictures of the type 1 jump smock (covering area's
        depicted here
        ).

I have been browsing through many of the messages here, but so far no luck yet.

Again, for all who can help me out, thanks a lot !

        - Marco.

          Frank ...

In one of your posts, you show your drop container...
          http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=237834

Were you ever able to finish the restoration?
If so, could you post new pictures?
If you don't mind, I would like to use them to model the container.

          Thanks.

          - Marco.

www.dordtopenstad.nl should have enough picture's to help you with the uniforms, be it wartime-picture's or reenactment-picture's. Otherwise the Norway FJ picture can be used to, the uniforms are the same.

That said, remember the FJ's of the Panzerjäger-Versuchs-Kompanie were mostly not Fallschirm-trained and wore the "normal" German helmets and boots, as did the Kradmelder and most of II./FJR2 that was airlifted into Waalhaven Airport.

I hope you don't forget the famous Dutch Stormdolk, as I saw the reenacters most of the time do.
