    Smock Question

I have a Named smock,Picked it up 4 years ago but just pulled it out for pics.Named to an Unteroffizier. No markings at all,it has the PRYM snaps and Rapid Zippers.A few holes here and there and a Camo Backed Eagle.Opinions please : ) Buttons are Blue Glass and I have the missing one.

That is a reverse-colour splinter smock - the type supposedly made for tropical countries ( not sure about that theory !).
If real, it is very rare. The camo on the inside bothers me a bit. Is it just bleed-through from the front ? Willi and John and Patrick are the guys to ask. They will know.

    Regards,
    Steve

      knochensack,

Only judging from these unfortunately low quality pictures I like what I see, personally I dare to say its an original Fallschirmjäger knochensack (jump smock)!, congratulations with this great find/purchase.

Tom, so far everything looks good. I would like to see a close up of the eagle.

As Steve stated the camo on the inside is odd.

Yes, it is a unique camo "variation"....water colors, splinter pattern. But, just like some of the winter garments and pull over smocks in this exact same pattern, they are just that; a camo variation and not one made specifically for tropical regions.

My problem is trying to determine whether it could be considered a water pattern variation or a splinter pattern variation. It does seem to me, based on the other camo uniforms I have seen/ owned in this pattern, is that this pattern did pre-date most standard water pattern uniforms.

I will see another one of these next weekend. I will check the camo inside and also look for markings. Not all smocks were marked.

Hi Tom, nice and very interesting smock! Thanks for sharing.

By chance, can you post a closeup of the name tag? If you want to conduct research on the former owner, the WAF's Orders and Research Forum is great. I'd like to compare your tag to mine (tunic and cap).

            Thanks again.

Shouldn't he have been an Oberjaeger?

Hi Gene-I've been told that sometimes the rank went either way (Uffz or Oberjaeger). I had the same question when I acquired the following helmet.

                  Take care my friend.

                  Best,

                  Larry

Very nice eagle ! Looks like the camo type sometimes found on smocks made by the Dietzel company. Can you confirm that the camo seen inside the smock is just the pattern that has bled through from the front ?

                          Regards,
                          Steve

Yes I believe its Bleed through of the pattern.
