    Fallschirmjaeger Rgt. Fuchs

    Question:
    Does anyone have information or knowledge of Fallschirmjaeger Rgt. or most likely Kampfgruppe Fuchs?
    The attached image is from the Segelflugzuegfuhrerschein of Leutnant Heinz Becher (Kriegs Offizer). Becher ended the war serving in the Fallschirmjaeger after service with numerous glider units. Notice that on the left side of the image is a listing for 11 Fallschirm Div., which to the best of my knowledge never fully formed and fought on as smaller battle groups. Just below that entry is 23.4. 45, Fallschirmjaeger Rgt. Fuchs? None of the reference material I have mentions this units. Any thoughts?

    Many thanks

    very interesting soldbuch

    hello,

    This seems to be a very interesting piece ( as you mention Glider !!! ) , i can make out the following glider units already :

    * Erg. Gruppe( S ) 2 , 4 e Staffel
    * 6 Go staffel / L.L.G. 2
    * 3./ Erg. Gruppe ( S ) 2
    * 1. Go 242 Staffel / LW Kdo Don
    * 3. VK (S) 4
    * 4. Schleppgruppe 2
    * 3. Schleppgruppe 2

    These untis are already quite impressive on their own and it seems that our dear Leutnant made career and was even able to survive towards the end of the war ( wich is not so common for Glider piltos !!! )

    The piece you have is the rare red Luftwaffe Glider pilot Schein, is it possible to show page 1 & 2 please ? => these can help me quite a bit further and I will go through my archives to see if I can find something in regards towards your person.

    It is quite normal that tehse former glider pilots where send towards FJ units but these are off minor importance ( at least for me ) iff I see Glider stuff

    Is there more that you might have from this person ?

    Cordial greetings,

      Fuchs

      Thanks Stijn-

      Yes, I would be more than happy to attach images of pages 1 and 2, will do later this evening. As for additional items to Becher, I have his Wehrpas as well and if you would like would be willing to supply images of that as well.

      Many thanks for your assistance.

                    Pages 22/23, pretty thin on awards which one would assume was due to award entries not being complete.

                        Giday Jeremy,

                        Thank you very much for posting the additional photographs of the licence and Wehrpass belonging to Becher.

                        What I find most interesting is that Becher was awarded the transport flight clasp in bronze. Evidence of such awards given to glider pilots is quite rare, as Stijn will no doubt confirm.

                        All the best,

                        Ian

                          Glider grouping

                          hello,

                          OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I just love that grouping my dear friend

                          I have done already some primary research in regards towards his units and the background of you man and the Wehrpass confirms everything I tought it would be ( be patient and you will know more real soon => after my vacation )

                          Ian is correct in regards the awarding from Operational clasps towards Glider pilots ( I can add that every original glide rpilto related issue should be considered rare !!!!!!! ) and iff anyone is interested he can read more in the following thread :

                          http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...=glider+pilots

                          ps : the documents I show in the above thread belonged towards a close friend of your gliderpilot and they both where promoted at the same time towards Leutnant ( I have pictures from your and my pilot => will be posted at the appropriate time )

                          as far as I can see your person did earn about 37 frontflights untill the end of his flying carreer, i assume he also earned the " erdkampfabzeichen" at some point altough it is not entered . You mention pretty thin on awards but just keep in mind that these guys ( Glider pilots ) where not much decorated for the very hard things they had to do !!!!!!! and as far as I believe it is even possible that he never did come further then the following awards :

                          * glider pilots badge
                          * Frontflugspange Transportflieger " Bronze "
                          * Eisernes kreuz 2 e klasse

                          thanks already a thousand times for this magnificent grouping and I will post more as promised after my vacation

                          Cordial greetings,

                            Glider pilot Herr Becher

                            Hello,

                            well lets see what I can add for you my friend => lets start with the very beginning of this mans career :

                            he was most probably already a quite experienced glider pilot ( with the flieger HJ ) and he certainly did earn the A, B and C certificate to begin with ( even before the war started real good ) as so many German youngsters he was drafted into the Luftwaffe and was placed in a LW training unit .

                            On 07.09.1940 he was transferred towards the " Segelfliegerschule der Luftwaffe " in Neuhausen ( former East prussia ) , this Glider school was formed in january 1940 under the command of Hauptmann Willerding at Braunschweig-Waggum.

                            In the late summer of 1940 there followed a relocation from this school towards Neuhausen, and with a change of location the famous Oberst Ludwig Reeps took over command + another change was the name, namely : Fliegerschule der Luftwaffe ( S ) 1 , so far for the moment as on background on this early training unit.

                            Very interesting to note is that our friend Becher did become a fully trained Glider pilot on 15.05.1941 ( the date off issue from the red ( military ) glider pilot booklet !!!! ) and we can see that Oberst ( still Major at this point of time !!! ) did sign this document .

                            This date also means that he was allowed to wear the famous Luftwaffe Glider pilots badge from that day on and he was issued a award certificate for this award.

                            Another very interesting thing is on page number 1 => namely the issue number of this red glider licence : 93 !!! , this means nothing more and nothing less that he was the 93 trained glider pilot from this particular glider training school !!!!!!!!!

                            our dear friend was now fully trained ( date : 23.05.1941 ) and was send towards a fully active Glider unit , namely the L.L.G. 1

                            more to follow ........

                              part 2 : interesting story's ....

                              Hello,

                              and now he was a member of the L.L.G 1 ( it is my guess that our friend was first furtehr trained with this unit to learn and fly with the newly developped Go 242 => page 3, 4 etc ... from the red glider licence can shed some light on this to see iff im guessing correctly !! ) .

                              In September of 1941 parts of the above named unit ( L.L.G. 1 ) where send towards the mediteranian over the following stations ; Vienna, Belgrado, Saloniki, Athen ( Eluesis ).
                              From the end of September/ beginning of Oktober 1941 the flights started to supply german troops on African soil . this troop was called " Schleppschwarm Afrika "

                              Iff we compare this with the entry's in the Wehrpass everything seems to match and our friend was even able to gather a few frontflights ( 9 to be correct )

                              10.09.1941 bis 11.01.1942 ; Transportfluge im Mittelmeerraum

                              The so called " Schleppschwarm Afrika " was disbanded at the beginning of 1942 as the Englisch have advanced into African soil over Bengasi, there where afew other minor units active also at that point of time in the mediteranean but these are not important in this particular case .

                              he stayed with the LLG 1 but did not see actual front service again untill 15.09.1942 and as we can follow he switched units ( this is completely correct as the LLG 2 was formed at Mai 1942 and offocarse they used some trained glider pilots as the core for this new unit ) already again at that time => my prime guess is that he was able to take a a leave and did spent further time in training .

                              more to follow ........
