Kreta Cuffband - Non-Standard Backing Fabric

    Hi Everyone,

Please could I ask for your opinions on this Kreta band.

The embroidery looks pretty good but the backing fabric is not typical. I understand though that variant fabrics were used.

Looks to have been removed from a tunic not that this is a guarantee of wartime manufacture.

    Thanks for looking.

    Best,
    Toby.

I've had one repro of these and studied several genuine ones including owning one, the stiching on the front looks a bit crude but otherwise it looks ok to me! Wait to see what the cuff experts think!?

            Cheers Mike

              Hi Mike,

Thanks for replying. I do have an original in my collection but don't know what to make of this one, at least with certainty.

It passes the burn test though and no reaction to UV.

              Best,
              Toby.

As pointed out the backing material is not correct. I would say its a 1957 version Kreta cuff that has been worn on a uniform.

I have to agree. The lettering lacks the crisp detail that an authetic wartime example should exibit.

The key is in the Acanthus design, where postwar examples always lack considerable detail
