    John Hodgin's New Book Announced

I just saw on the Barnes and Noble web site that John Hodgin's new book will be released in February 2008. A little late for Christmas, but I'm sure it will be well worth the wait.

Title: German Paratroopers in North Africa: Tropical Uniforms, Headgear, and Insignia of Fallschirmjager in World War II

    Publisher: Schiffer

    ISBN: 0764329391
    ISBN-13: 9780764329395

Thank you Colonel Cummins. If not in time for Christmas, at least in time for the SOS.

I hope many will find the book of interest. Here is an early Schiffer concept for the cover; this may change a bit before printing.
    Regards,
    John

I'll buy two copies. One to pant over now and one to save for my golden years.

                John,

Do you cover any Soldbuch/wehprass and/or award documents in this book or is mainly equipment/uniforms etc.?

                Cheers,
                Ian

                  John,
                  Is it possible to pre-order?
How many pages and what size book are we looking at?
                  Fantastic effort
                  Regards,
                  Mark.

Congratulations, John! Undoubtedly, it´s another great contribution to the Fallschirmjäger research. In short, "a must" in my library... BTW, Do you cover any historical background?
                      Best regards. Óscar

                          Hello Gentlemen,

Thank you for all the interest!

Mark, I am not sure if it is possible to preorder. I will ask my editor at Schiffer today.

Daniele and Katsumasa, of course, I would be pleased to autograph everyone's copies. If Schiffer attends the SOS I imagine I will be at their table some doing this. So Dan, will you attend?

Ian, the book is mainly focused on combat uniforms, but I do show some limited Soldbuch entries as well as documents.

Oscar, there is brief history, but not in depth, that is for another book.

Steve, I hope you enjoy the photos. There are many views of tropical jump smocks.

Mike, you sound like me, I like at least two of everything, one mint, and one battle worn. In fact, when possible, mint and worn examples of the same items are illustrated in the book. Many of the worn pieces have direct provenance to Africa.

Dan, do not fret over the helmet on the cover. The caption about this helmet describes it's history; how an Australian soldier picked it up at Alamein and shipped it to his nephew back home as a souviner-gift.

                          Regards to all,
                          John

Ciao John, I do not fret over it too, of course!
You know I'd love to come to SOS...But musk ask permission of my wife...the hardest part is to convince her that's still possible to flight thousands miles just see "rusty stuff", as she calls them. She simply does not believe that's possible, so she is firmly convinced there surely must be something else behind... Really Don't know which "truth" would make her more sad, the "rusty stuff" or the "something else behind" one...!!

                              Wonderful news Mr. Hodgin!

I too will wait in line for my copy (which I might be able to twist your arm to sign).
