Dog Tag I.D.

A couple of years ago I purchased a Dog tag that was supposed to be from the Herman Goering Division.

I just wanted to know if there was anybody that could interpret the markings on it and tell me for sure.

The markings are :

971 B
16 III.E.u.A. Brig. H.G.



These markings appear on both halves of the tag.

That would interpet as:

Personal number 971
Blood group B
unit: 16 Replacement Company, III. Replacement Bataillon, Replacement and Training Brigade "Hermann Göring" (16 Ersatz Kompnanie, III. Ersatz Bataillon, Ersatz und Ausbildungs Brigade "H.G.").

Thanks for the info. What role would this soldier have played in the Herman Goring Division ? Is there any way of telling ?

No, this was issued when he joined up so only his recruit unit is known.......he could have been post anywhere within the unit......most probably one of the Schützen/Panzer Grenadier units?
