Smock eagle?

This was a lucky find on ebay. No photo was posted so I got it for $29!!!!

Some of us know about these being used on very late smocks, but not with a straight line stitch (that I have seen yet).

Has anyone seen these eagles on other Luft uniform items?

I believe mine was straight-stiched. The story that came with it was it was that it was a smock eagle. I haven't seen one on any other Luft clothing. Perhaps this thread will cause people to check there collections.I think the fact that it is green suggests it is for combat clothing.

Have seen one of these on a smock. Have never seen a green shirt, nor this eagle on anything other than a smock. Would love to see photos of that green shirt mayer! Always felt green shirts existed. After all, green sun helmets and smooth (non HBT) green tunics exist. So where are all the shirts?

I remember that that shirt was found here that was the second i seen in my life, and i owed it for few years! Now i don't know where it is because is passed some years now! But i'm sure a friend of mine has one like that with eagle, but not in a triangle base like willi's eagle. I'll try to take some photos for you next time when i'll meet this guy!

I agree some of these eagles could have been used on green tropical shirts. But, I have yet to see one of those shirts. Nor have I heard any FJ or Luftwaffe veteran confirm the presence of green tropical shirts. Still keeping an open mind though......

We do know they were present on smocks. I think Raoul knows of one which either had or has an eagle like this on it. I certainly know of a very late water pattern smock which was brought home by a vet which has this eagle zig-zag stitched. And, I know a FJ collector who had one of these smock decades ago. He removed the eagle because he thought it wasn't right. He then saw the one I know of and said "oh sh*t!"

Here are a few more, including one which was trimmed. Note the heavy stitching used on the recent one, something you don't see on shirt eagles, IMO.

I saw a smock with an eagle on triangular backing about 2 years ago. Thought it was the standard eagle for tropical shirts (with the sand background), thus replaced. Now I am not too sure anymore. Could have faded, as it was darker than the tropical, but lighter than this one. Was offered me for sale, but I declined then.

Interesting smock Roger! I would love to hear about the date and RBNr maker. The eagles I presented would be straight line stitched like the one on the GD jacket in John's photo. I have yet to see a loose eagle which was zig zag applied, but have seen only one on a smock.

I believe this is the same smock as in #10. The museum covered the hole with a tropical bird.
