Yes, Bart is correct. He listed some great information on that other thread. But, fully qualified was the completion of 6 jumps at the school, so it does seem that they received an abbreviated jump course.

The Skijäger topic seems fascinating, and I never knew they used FJ M38s and gasmask bags.

John, I think an elite force section would not really take off. Though to run a section on just history......IMO. I see nothing wrong with discussing issues that have some relation to FJ units or FJ equipment, in this area.

      john,
there are two skijäger-publications, sadly only in german and french (series in mag).

Gunter, Georg: Die Deutschen Skijäger, Von den Anfängen bis 1945, Podzun 1993

Lefevre, Eric: La Skijäger-Brigade 1 en lignes sur le Pripet, Militaria, Vol. 130,131,132,133

here is another pic i already posted in the "paper" forum in search of raupenschlepper-ost related items. here you can see the skijäger tkz, a tyre + ski emblem. note the mix of gebirgsjäger-anoraks, padded splinter-camo jackets, standard gasmask-can (the clothbag-version seems to be given out mainly to the jagdkommando elements), whitewashed k98´s and acessory pouch for the 12 cm gr.w.

        Thank you Werner,

Please continue to keep this discussion going. Another excellent photo; the whitewashed 98k is great! You should post this photo on the Firearms Forum if you haven't already.

Willi, I'd still like to see a discussion of other special units, and the ones without jump equipment wouldn't fit in Fj, such as the different Sonderverband units, so a history section might be good.

        Best,
        John
