I realize studying actual helmets is the best way to learn about them. With that said, what is the best reference book on FJ helmets? Merci.

There isn't a reference book just for FJ helmets. There are lots of "picture books" with some really good photos of original helmets. I think "German Paratroops" by Robert Kurtz has the best selection of original helmets, including superb examples of DDs,SDs,NDs and rare camos. You also get everything else connected with FJ collecting thrown in !
