Tracking down a photo...

Hi All

I am trying to track down a published photo from Tunisia or Southern Italy. I think that it was a common photo used in references in the late 70's and 80's. If someone could post a scan or put in a link I would appreciate it.

Description: German para wearing a camo jump smock (looks newish), upper torso shot only (I'm going off memory), bit of arid landscape to the left in the photo, sandy coloured helmet, and the most significant identifier, a well groomed goatee beard. Hope that is enough info, as I say it was a fairly commonly published phot. So why can't I track it down...

Is this the one you were thinking of? He's a Luftwaffe guy (note the belt buckle). In the original you can see he's wearing a Luftwaffe tan uniform. But he's got a conventional steel pot with a probably captured net and a Zeltbahn, not a para smock.

Thanks Gunbunny, yes that was the photo I was thinking of. I guess after 2 decades or more what I thought I had seen and what the reality is are very different things !! Thankyou nonetheless for posting the photo, even though he is not a para it is a fine photo.

I had a hunch this was the one you meant even though he's not wearing a FJR helm. Not too many Wehrmacht guys wearing beards outside of U Boot crews and a few Gebergsjaeger! Glad to help!
