I think ive read that one of the fallschirmjaeger ,think 3rd FJ?maybe even a 6th regt man ?who only with his jump knife was seperated from his unit and traveled miles through allied lines etc..just to get back with his crowd(think this was when the big retreat was going on,all the confusion,allied bombing ,and the falaise pocket area?.

Hello,
this story is true for literally hundreds of FJ in Northern France.
To be honest, they all have great things to tell and it's a shame that they were not allowed to.
See, one of the things I've heard all the time during my interviews is "Volker, you know, if only my own son or grandson was half as interested in me as you are".
Nobody ever wanted to listen.
Nobody cared.
Today, every soldier returning from a deployment gets psychological care if he needs it. They talk about posttraumatic stress disorder, etc. They were young, some as young as 16, 17 years and went through extraordinary stress. They were even denied the right to TALK about their experiences to cope with them.
THAT is the real shame.
The country wanted to get over with the war really quick and didn't like to talk about it.
I saw old men crying when they told me their stories, because I was the first one they were able to tell them to.
The book is for them. It is not to make me famous or for the money. It is because they deserve it.

There History

Did the new bundeswehr when it was set up in 1955 have a FJ unit?but when it did come about did they not record there history in some way in a museum at the airborne school or home base like with records of the old soldiers.I know that ex fallschirmjaeger joined the the army ,FJ? dont know,they must have written memoirs/information etc.. for historical reasons.
