    Help with Fallschirmjäger-Brigade Ramcke Identification

Requesting additional information from Forum members on the below pictured paratroopers that served in North Africa. Specifically interested in confirming both were members of the Brigade Ramcke during Jul-Nov 1942.

The first portrait is Jäger Winfried Gesemberg, pictured in Edgar Alcidi’s book, Fallschirmjäger Brigade Ramcke in North Africa 1942-43. The author is unfortunately no longer available to fill in details about Gesemberg’s story. Also interested in making contact with the current owner(s) of Gesemberg’s ID disc and cloth para badge pictured in the book.

The second set of photographs (field photo and portrait) are of the same paratrooper. Looking to put a name and FJ unit to this as yet unidentified officer. Feel free to PM me. Any assistance is greatly appreciated in advance!

    Regards,

    Mike

      Thanks Waldo,

This photo, or another copy of it, is also included with the group. Looks to be take some time after North Africa in Helmstedt. Will try contacting the collector to see if there is additional information.

Seems he was lucky survived the war, many men from his unit KIA and MIA in early 44 in Ukraine, we dug some of them with very close ID numbers, would be great to know did he take part in campaign on East front winter43/44..
Almost whole 7and 8 kompanies of II./FJR5 were smashed by tanks and infantry during Russian offensive operation on 5.1.44

            Hi Sergey,

Fascinating to see so many ID discs belonging to initial intakes of II./FJR 5! Don’t know what became of young Gesemberg after Africa, but hope other collectors will know more and can complete the story for us.

Was told Edgar Alcidi knew Gesemberg’s sister (?), where he obtained the personal items pictured above. Had assumed most of Gesemberg’s unit fought in Tunisia after the Second Battle of El Alamein, going into captivity after May 1943. Your findings provide clear evidence many got out to form FJR 16 (and perish) in the East.

For those interested, here is the MOB listing that tracks with number 53398.

            Regards,

            Mike

Would be great to know what happened with him, I'm sure he survived because of the tag from family..after Africa they were transferred to Italy and then to east Ukraine ..and this would be very special theme if there is his war diaries can be found about these events. Hope they have some info..
