Rubber soles for Fallschrimjager 2nd Model boots ???

    Hello all.

I have a question about a nice pair of 2nd model Fallschrimjager boots that I am considering purchasing from a reputable dealer, if still available, but a question concerns me about the soles.

The soles are a deep-thread hard rubber marked "Matterhorn".

Of course most of the soles I have seen are non-studded leather.
Are these soles appropriate for these or is this a recent re-sole of the boots ???
I have a few books for reference, but none address this.
I pose this question to the moderators, as well as others who may be able to help. Thanks in advance. Wonderful forum as well.

I used to own a pair of 2nd pattern FJ boots which were 1944 dated and had deep thread rubber soles marked CONTINENTAL, which in my opinion were 100% wartime applied, or even issued like that.
I bought them in 1963 from a dealer who had a batch of about a dozen pairs, all from the same source, and they all had rubber soles.
    Regards, RAY.
PS better not tell you what I paid, or you might cry!

      Hi ,

I guess you've got the answer already from kindly moderators.
      But..As you mentioned,
      Here's my boots:
They're NOT non-studded leather soles ,therefor I think My boots is questionable.

      regards

IF we are talking about the same pair my first concearn about the boots would be the eyelets-they are speed lace loops, the soles would be a distant second.

        All the best

          Hello Yannis,

I don't like those pair neither. BTW, Andrew, according to the condition (have been complete resoled & reheeled, some eyelets have been replaced...), they're too expensive.....

            Hello,
what about putting a picture about the biq's here if possible.
I'm willing to accept a rubber sole (although I'm not sure how wartime "Matterhors" is), but that would be the absolutely first time that I've seen fast-lacing FJ boots. How many pairs per boot?

            best regards,
            Volker

              Thanks to all who responded.
I wanted to he was try to keep this inquiry discrete, for a few reasons.
Yanni and Volker pose some intersting questions as well, about the "speed lace" eyelids. There are twelve eyelids, with numbers 5-12, being speed lace.
Modern U.S. pilots' boots have these, not sure about 1943 FJ boots.
I will try to post pics of the boots, let's see if they post.

                      Andrew,

not much right with these - the speed laces are 100% wrong, and the soles are absolutely not correct. The number inside the boot's shaft is a feeble attempt to give it some authentic look. If I were you, I would hold on to your pants, and start running....

Thanks for your input. That's what I'm thinking as well. I'm not getting a good feeling about these, however, I would like to get input of moderators and a few others...
                        Interesting education though....

I agree with Frank. And, on the numbers too. These boots are not original.

I think a few very early front lace boots may have had rubber soles, I thought we had that chat before.......am not sure if it was on the forum. I know of one pair that is original.

These speed lace boots have been encountered over the last 10 years or so. Not sure if they are military issue somewhere, but most are encountered with resoled leather and metal plates.

                            Okay,
now I am 95% sure what they are: Austrian Bundesheer boots.
These come in exactly this configuration and the only thing somebody has done to them is the lettering.
And who did you say was selling these as originals...
I once thought about buying a pair for reenacting and converting them to look more convincing.

                            best regards,
                            Volker

Thanks for your reponse, as well as Mr Zahn.
The answer to your question lies in the pics I posted, at least for this pair....
I'm learning this dealer is not what I thought him to be....
