On the real helmets I've studied (only late war helmets) along with plentyful of pictures I've studied (both early and late helmets), the leather sweat lining have seven smaller ventilation holes and four larger ventilation holes (the larger ones are placed in connection where the spanner bolts are attached to the shell).
However, reading Baers book pages 214-221 (the translation of the 1938 LW service regulations), the description ("D") clearly says "four vent holes of 25 mm diameter and seven of 30 mm diameter". Diagram 7 also illustrates this i.e. four smaller (on the top of the liner) and seven larger ventilation "around" the liner.
This contradicts how all liners I've seen actually look like.
Can one find both patterns on real liners?
